Sculptra- A Different Kind of Filler

What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a new kind of filler, which is different to most other types. Unlike others, it does not simply replace lost volume immediately, by bulking out the skin. Instead it encourages the skin to produce extra collagen of its own, which improves the skin gradually, over a period of time. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid which is biodegradable and non-toxic.

Which areas are suitable for treatment?
Sculptra is suitable for augmenting and replacing lost volume in the cheeks, improving nose to mouth lines and marionette or sad lines from the outer corners of the mouth. It is not suitable for lip augmentation, as it cannot be injected into the pink area of the lip.

What does the treatment involve?
Between two and four sessions can be required, depending on the previous loss of volume. At each session, several injections are performed in each of the treatment areas. Anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand, to reduce discomfort. At the end of the session, the area looks much plumper and improved, but this is actually the effect of the fluid used to dissolve the filler. Over the next two to three days, this fluid is reabsorbed and the area looks the same as before treatment. The improvement then becomes apparent over a period of weeks.

How often is the treatment carried out?
The sessions are carried out every four to six weeks and the improvement continues for up to six months after the last session.

How long does it last?
Clinical evidence has shown that increases in dermal thickness have been shown to last up to two years. Over 90% of clients and doctors have reported in excess of 18 months improvement after an initial course of treatment. Top up sessions can be carried out as necessary in the future.

Is it painful?
The injections are quite deep, so it can be uncomfortable. However, the filler is diluted with local anaesthetic which drastically reduces the discomfort. Also, a very fine needle is used and we apply an anaesthetic gel prior to treatment.

How can I tell if this is the right filler for me?
A consultation will help us to assess which is the best treatment for you. You will be advised according to the area for treatment, your age, your medical situation and your expectations. Some treatments are perfect for some areas and not others, fortunately we have a wide range of treatments available so we have something to suit everyone.
