Mapperley Park News
Dermaroller has been carried out as far back as the 1980s, with various people in Germany and South Africa carrying out the procedure to induce new collagen production, skin tightening and a general improvement in skin tone and texture. Home Dermarollers were first available for sale eight years ago at The Mapperley Park Clinic, so our history with the technique goes back a long way.
The idea of inducing damage to skin in order to initiate a predictable response is not a new one. Practitioners have been burning skin with acids, in the form of chemical peels, and with light, in the form of laser resurfacing, for many years. Injuring skin with needles is simply another way of achieving the same result in an equally controlled and predictable way.
The newest addition to the Dermaroller camp is the Dermastamp. This is a small, single use disposable device containing six 2mm surgical needles which can be ‘stamped' into deeper lines and wrinkles, for example those lines on the top lip commonly known as ‘lip-stick bleed lines', and the deeper lines on the brow. This enhances the results of an already fantastic treatment, and allows clients to opt for a more concentrated treatment on specific target areas.
As with normal Dermaroller treatments, three sessions will normally produce a significant improvement, but as with all treatments at Mapperley Park, it is the client who decides the number and spacing of treatments. It takes as many treatments as it takes for the client to be happy with the end result.
In a recent survey carried out by Cosmetic News Magazine, the biggest Trend for 2010 was predicted to be ‘the natural look', with treatments such as Dermaroller, which concentrate on improvement in quality and tone of the skin, and encourage collagen production tipped to be the biggest selling treatments.
