I was by profession an NHS qualified Physiotherapist and began working with medical lasers and light in that capacity in the late 1970s. In 1993, when I set up one of the very first laser facilities as Mapperley Park Clinic, there was no ‘aesthetic’ industry and people just wanted tattoos and hair removed. I still run a busy 10-room facility on a day-to-day basis and hold one of the largest cosmetic medical equipment suites in the country. We offer solutions to the widest range of skin problems.
Unfortunately, there are very few qualifications available in cosmetic medicine but I am BTEC laser qualified and indeed run the Mapperley Park BTEC qualifications in lasers and light both as lecturer and Internal Verifier for Edexcel. I also helped set up the first competence-based injectables training in 2004 (BOTOX and dermal fillers) with a view to delivering professional qualifications; the Industry, however preferred the one-day certificate model to our four-day evidence-based approach and we withdrew our injectable courses in 2008. We presented our findings regarding the lack of effective training and qualification in the industry to the Keogh Review in December 2013.
20 years of daily lists means that I must be one of the most experienced cosmetic practitioners in the business having undertaken or overseen more than 180,000 procedures in that time. My passion is skin and I have the experience to apply my expertise effectively and professionally.
Although injection trained and a sclerotherapy expert with 15 years of practice, I do not carry out BOTOX or fillers treatments myself leaving that to our own Dr Helen Fernandez, who has been injecting exclusively at the clinic, delivering more than 40,000 procedures since 1996. I employ beauty therapists, nurses, doctors and consultant surgeons appropriate to the circumstance and I pride myself in managing a safe and expert service.

Dr. Helen Fernandez has worked for Mapperley Park Clinic since 1993 and is one of the country's most experienced injectors.
