With a massive increase in demand for laser hair removal and the rise in popularity of tattoo removal and vascular treatments, it’s little wonder that a growing number of professionals are seeking out ways to learn this invaluable new skill.
Delegates attend Laser courses for a variety of reasons, from those who are completely new to the sector, through to experienced practitioners who wish to broaden their knowledge. At Mapperley Park Training Academy we provide training in Laser and Light Therapies from industry experts, welcoming practitioners of every level from all over the UK and worldwide. In the last two years in particular, they have seen demand for their courses almost double.
Glenda Bailye-Bray, Head of Learning and Development says: “The general public’s awareness of the often life-changing results that laser can bring is growing. In turn, demand for quality training has also grown.
These courses offer delegates the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of lasers and light and how it reacts with the tissue in a variety of treatments, as well as core knowledge in; hair removal, tattoo removal, non ablative water targeting, and vascular treatments. But where are these skills being used?
From specialist units in hospitals to private clinics and beauty salons, qualifications in laser are in demand across the aesthetics industry. We spoke to a leading national clinic chain who offer a wide selection of procedures, from dermatology treatments to anti-ageing injectables and laser hair removal. Whether it’s a desire to banish a bikini line for good or the treatment of facial hair removal that may be affecting a client’s confidence on a daily basis, laser hair removal is by far their most popular treatment.
A representative from the national clinic chain comments: “In the last 5 years we have seen a 10% increase in demand for laser hair removal with almost half a million treatments for facial hair removal alone, as well as an almost 20% increase in areas such as underarm and bikini line. There is no doubt that laser hair removal treatments have seen a massive growth, however, we have also seen an increase for other procedures such as tattoo removal which have been dramatically advanced by laser. In addition to this we are also able to offer much faster relief for clients who may have been on lengthy waiting lists for treatments such as thread and varicose veins.”
The courses in Laser and Light available at Mapperley Park successfully combine theory with practical demonstrations. Entry requirements vary by course, but there are no specific qualification requirements for the Level 4 courses, which are suitable for all, just a desire to learn the subject and a good understanding of both verbal and written English.
The team at Mapperley Park is continually looking to develop the newest and most advanced courses available, this demonstrated by the recent launch of three innovative and accredited BTEC qualifications that provide credible, quality training and development in lasers. We are currently the only training academy able to offer a progression route for BTEC qualifications in Lasers and Light Therapies enabling learners to progress to a BTEC Level 5 Certificate.
This suite of courses is designed to enable the development of knowledge, understanding and confidence, providing practitioners of every level with the training required to be at the forefront of the industry enabling them to treat effectively and safely using the latest technology and techniques.
