There are a number of treatments available for treating Varicose veins which break down into 2 types:
• General anaesthetic (GA) day case procedures that may require an overnight stay and are likely to require time off work.
• Local anaesthetic (LA) out patient procedures requiring little or no down time.
GA procedures are carried in an operating theatre and include:
• VNUS
• High tie and LSV Strip
• Short Saphenous ligation
• Redo High Tie, LSV Strip
• Redo Short saphenous ligation
• Multiple avulsions
LA procedures are generally newer techniques taking advantage of recent technological advances and include:
• Sclerotherapy injections
• Varicofoam injections
• EVLT
Detailed information about all these procedures is available but at this point it is probably enough to know that there is a range of effective treatments for Varicose Veins some of which are hospital based, General Anaesthetic procedures and some of which are clinic based, Local Anaesthetic procedures involving minimal down-time.
How will I find out which treatments might be suitable for me?
We cannot advise you over the phone as it is necessary to see the veins in order to assess suitable treatments. A consultation with our Vascular Surgeon, Mr Braithwaite, will be necessary in order to proceed with any treatment.
